Introduction
Yes, English can be weird. It can be understood through tough thorough thought, though.

Writing well is a valuable skill most do not possess. You don’t agree? Take a look at your Facebook feed. Or an email from your boss or department. Or a letter to the editor. What does the writing you see say about its author? Are you impressed with their professionalism or amused at their poor communication skills? How about you? Do you impress or amuse with your written communications?
Why is it important to write well? It seems like a silly question, but our writings precede us. When applying for a job we must submit a resume’ and sometimes a cover letter. Or how about when sending e-mails to someone we don’t know well or haven’t met, such as work partners, customers, or when responding on behalf of your company or institute? Your writing often forms the first impression; and you only get one chance to make it. When writing, we send a message about ourselves.
Poor writing may cost a great deal. Misunderstandings can occur from the misuse of sentences and words. Therefore, we need to be clear, focused, and accurate in order to not be misunderstood, underestimated, or ignored.
Whether you have dreams of becoming the next Great Novelist or you just want to express your thoughts and ideas clearly, you can take steps to become a better writer. Becoming a great writer—or even a good writer—takes practice and knowledge, but with enough hard work perhaps someday somebody will aspire to be the next you!
